| Location: South Africa » Western Cape » Cape Town » Fish Hoek For years this residential seaside town derived its fame fromt he fact that it was the only 'teetotal' town in South Africa. The sale of liquor was prohibited by ord Charles Somerset in 1818, apparently in an attempt to prevent wagon drivers who were delivering provisions to Simon's Town from stopping off en route and becoming intoxicated at Fish Hoek's winehouse. The town has a fine, safe beach and boating facilities. In the hills above Fish Hoek is Peers Cave, a rock shelter used by prehistoric man. The cave is named for Victor Peers who discovered a 15000 year old fossilised skull here in 1927.
