Description

This elegant and modern guest house, opened for business in December 2004 and has attracted much interest from the local and regional community. The guest house has been described as having clean lines, airy rooms, sparkling pool and private patios the guest house creates the impression of a Mediterranean getaway in the heart of Port Alfred (Talk of the Town, December 2004)

Port Alfred is situated half way between the coastal cities of Port Elizabeth and East London. Both cities have airports which are serviced by all domestic airlines. Port Alfred, and Sheilan House, is therefore ideally suited not only for business people but also local and international holiday guests. Local amenities cannot be rivaled; golf, fishing, water sports or just lazing.

Accommodation

There are four double guest suites, three with queen beds and one with twin beds, each has superb en suite bathrooms with either a shower or shower and bath.

Port Alfred is fast becoming the jewel of the Eastern Cape as more and more people discover the natural beauty of the area - sandy beaches and dunes where one can walk for miles, the Kowie River which flows for 29 kilometres inland from the sea and the indigenous plant life. Kellys Beach, the main swimming beach, has achieved the coveted Blue Flag status.

There is a vast array of beach and water sport activities available including deep-sea and river fishing, beach angling, surfing, diving, sand kiting, duneboarding and canoeing. There are several horse riding trails which include forest, beach and in one case game viewing. Lawn bowls and tennis are also available.

Sheilan House is only 300metres from the Royal Port Alfred Golf Club which is one of the few links course in South Africa and 29 kilometres from Fish River Sun which is a Gary Player designed parkland course. We are happy to book any of these activities in advance of arrival.

The Eastern Cape has an abundance of game reserves which offer game viewing in a malaria free area. Amongst the best known are Addo Elephant Park, Shamwari, Kariega and Pumba. All of these are within 1 to 2.5 hours drive from Port Alfred. Day visits can be arranged to several reserves.

43 Airschool is on the outskirts of town and can offer landing facilities to certain small aircraft. 55 kilometres from Port Alfred is Grahamstown - home to Rhodes University and The National Arts Festival which is held every year at the end of June.

BREAKFAST & DINING

Meals are served on the enclosed patio overlooking the pool, sundeck and gardens. Breakfast is either full English or continental. Try our speciality - Springbok carpaccio! Dinner is available by arrangement.

FACILITIES & SERVICE

The guest lounge leads on to the patio and both areas are warmed by an open fire in the cool winter nights. Enjoy a sundowner with us at the bar in the lounge or in the gardens where you can spot up to 20 varieties of birdlife in the tall trees surrounding the property.

R72 runs through Port Alfred From the traffic lights at the bridge turn into Wesley Hill Go over the hill to the stop sign. Turn right into Prince s Avenue. Sheilan House is about 200 metres on left hand side.
