AttractionsThe Hout Bay area offers many attractions including beaches, hikes, boat cruises, shops and horse riding. It is also at the foot of the breath-taking Chapman’s Peak Drive, connecting Hout Bay to the quaint Noordhoek Village and then on to Cape Point. The V&A Waterfront and city centre is a scenic drive of fifteen minutes away. There you will find world-class restaurants and entertainment, as well as first rate local and international shopping. Table Mountain is Cape Town 's most famous landmark and one of the city's greatest attractions. There are over 100 scenic ways to climb the mountain, which stands at 1086 metres above sea level, but most people take the revolving cable car which whisks you to the top in a just a few minutes. The views in all directions are magnificent and the feeling of being on top of the world is what makes this such a popular destination. It's best to visit on a clear day, though a tablecloth of clouds can descend at any time, flowing over the edge like a breaking wave. Legend has it that the tablecloth is due to an old Afrikaner called Van Hunks who sits on Devil's Peak having a smoking contest with the devil himself; they just keep puffing away and neither ever wins. Head in the other direction, past the Hout Bay Manor Hotel onto Chapman's Peak, one of the most scenic drives in the world. This narrow winding road offers stunning views down into Hout Bay harbor and will take you towards Cape of Good Hope nature reserve. Why not go horse riding on Noordhoek beach, visit the Penguin colony at Boulder's beach or have a look at the naval base in historic Simon's Town along the way!
